Coleman Ray Clark (he/him) is a director, designer, actor, and theater-maker originally from Arkansas who moved to San Diego in 2023 by way of New York City. He is a frequently involved in and creator of new plays and musicals and loves taking risks. His work is often highly collaborative, inventive, and full of love. So far in San Diego, he’s worked with Cygnet Theatre, Diversionary, CCAE Theatricals, and CoSA, & he’s thrilled to mark his San Diego directing debut with Chalk Circle Collective! www.colemanrayclark.com

christopher oscar peña grew up in San Jose, California before moving to New York City to earn his BFA and MFA at NYU, and now splits his time between New York and LA. An in-demand TV-writer for such hit series as CW’s “Jane The Virgin,” HBO’s “Insecure” and ABC/Hulu’s “Promised Land,” for which he is Supervising Producer, peña works in media ranging from theatre to tv to opera.

A resident of New Dramatists and a former Fellow with The Lark, NYTW, the Playwrights Realm and the Old Vic/New Voices, peña was recently named Artistic Associate at Arizona Theatre Company and was listed on Backstage’s “Future Broadway Power List.”

  • Jake couldn't be happier to join The Collective and be a part of this company.   • Javier is a Bi-costal actor based in California & New York. He is so excited to be returning to San Diego for his debut with Chalk Circle Collective. Javier received his M.F.A in Acting from Columbia University (2019) and his B.A. in Performance from SDSU (2016). As always…for Nana, for Mom, for Sis.   • Michael is thrilled to make his theatrical debut in The Strangers! After serving as production assistant on Constellations [Chalk Circle Collective, season 2] he continued his training through opportunities with La Jolla Playhouse with dreams of transitioning to the front of the house. When he isn’t on stage Michael enjoys cooking, composing music, and being a dad. He’s been awestruck working alongside this immensely talented cast/creative team and would like to thank all of the family and friends that have influenced, supported, and made this journey possible.

  • Steven is honored to be joining Chalk Circle Collective in The Strangers. Recent credits include the Narrator in Every Brilliant Thing (CCAE Theatricals), Elliot in Water by the Spoonful (Craig Noel Award Winner, Outstanding Lead Performance), Mr. Darcy in Pride & Prejudice, Jackie in The Motherf**ker with the Hat (Cygnet Theatre), and Orlando in As You Like It (New Fortune Theatre). A first-generation Latino-American from San Francisco, Steven earned his Theatre degree from UC San Diego and now calls Southern California home. He’s grateful to the loved ones who continue to support and inspire him.

  • Michael Amira Temple brings theatre to spaces that need it most. She facilitates Forum Theatre with Imagine Brave Spaces, devises and directs for Diversionary's Teen-versionary summer camp celebrating queer youth, and teaches Shakespeare with incarcerated communities through The Old Globe's Reflecting Shakespeare program. As an actor, facilitator, and director across San Diego and beyond, she believes in theatre as a tool for healing and self-discovery. Recently seen as the Angel in Merry Me, Amira is grateful to gather with you in this room, for this story, right now.

  • Lauren is a San Diego-based actor who has performed nationally in the tour of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and locally at numerous theatres in Southern California including Cygnet Theatre, Lamb's Players Theatre, Diversionary Theatre, Backyard Renaissance, New Village Arts, Moonlight Stage Productions, San Diego Musical Theatre, Intrepid Shakespeare, and the Welk Theatre. She was most recently seen onstage locally as Cecily in The Importance of Being Earnest at Lamb's Players Theatre. Lauren received her BFA in Musical Theatre from Cal State University, Fullerton.

  • Kelsey has been working professionally in theater for over 20 years, performing on stages across North America. A native of San Diego, she earned her BA in Theatre from San Diego State University and her MFA in Acting from the Tony Award-winning American Conservatory Theater. She has performed regionally at theaters such as the Old Globe, the Guthrie Theater, and the American Conservatory Theater, among others. She was a member of the First National Tour of Dear Evan Hansen and served as the Assistant Director / Assistant Choreographer for the final non-equity tour.   • Kimberly is honored to be making her Chalk Circle Collective debut.   • Jemima is excited to be working with The Chalk Circle Collective on this production! She has been working with Lamb’s Players Theatre for nearly 20 years, contributing her talents in the costume shop. A few of her favorite shows to design include MiXtape, The 39 Steps, You Can’t Take It With You, Silent Sky, The 70's The Golden Age of the Album, Million Dollar Quartet, and R-E-S-P-E-C-T, for which she was a Critics Circle nominee for Outstanding Costume Design (2023). Further work includes: All This and Moonlight & An Inspector Calls (Scripps Ranch Theatre), Old Wicked Songs & Talley’s Folly (NCRT), and Side Man (Bang! Productions),Twain Fest, Poe Fest, Yellow Wallpaper (Write Out Loud), and Looped (The Roustabouts) Additionally, her credits include designs for the Malashock Dance for Ventura Music Festival, Eye of the Beholder, Classics for Kids—Music Takes Flight, Babar, The Art of Dance, and High Strung.

  • Steven Leffue is a sound designer, composer, and computer musician. He is a co-founder of the OBIE award winning performance venue JACK (jackny.org), and a resident member of experimental Hoi Polloi Theatre Company (hoipolloiworld.com). He has designed and/or composed music for original work by an extensive list of critical contemporary voices including Zora Howard, Celine Song, Emily Feldman, Lily Padilla, Anna Moench, Ella Rose Chary, Keiko Green, Kate Hamill, Nathan Davis, and Charles Smith. Steven is a member of the International Computer Music Association and serves as its Director for the Americas Region (computermusic.org). Notable festival appearances include the NYC Under the Radar Festival, Vienna Festwoche, Washington DC Fringe Fest, Brooklyn International Performance Arts Festival.   • Nicholas is a set designer, performer & stained glass artist based in San Diego, CA. His work has been seen at: Theaterworks Hartford, The La Jolla Playhouse/WoW, The 5th Ave, IAMA Theatre Co., Boston Court, LA Opera, Penumbra Theatre, Chautauqua Theatre Co, Antaeus Theatre Co, Detroit Public Theatre and others. Nick is the associate scenic designer and installation supervisor for Optika Moderna, creating immersive theatrical experiences in San Diego. Interim head of Scenic Design at SDSU.   • Sammy is a lighting designer from Nashville TN, that has received their Masters of Fine Arts in Lighting Design from San Diego State University. He has also earned a Bachelors of Science in Film and Television Production from Middle Tennessee State University. They have worked on a multitude of projects in the world of entertainment including theatre, concerts, corporate, and live events. “I would like to dedicate this design to all the love and lovers, known and unknown, good and bad, in my past, present, and future.   • Madison Mercado is a San Diego-based stage manager. She is thrilled to be making her Chalk Circle debut. She is currently a fourth year undergraduate student at San Diego State University.   • Syd Showers is delighted to make their professional debut as Assistant Lighting Designer for The Strangers. They are a student at Grossmont Community College studying Technical Theater and Design. Previous productions include A Servant of Two MastersOur Town, and Pirates of Penzance at Grossmont College. 

  • Kamila Nunez is very excited to be working with Chalk Circle Collective Theatre on The Strangers! She is a freshman in college pursuing Technical Theatre and takes an interest in sound. Kamila recently worked as the A1 for Manifest Pussy at Diversionary Theatre, where she gained hands-on experience mixing live vocals and playback. She’s thrilled to continue growing and collaborating with such a creative and passionate team.

Pepe is thrilled to bring Gatz to life in The Strangers! He has previously appeared as President Roosevelt in Annie, Santa Claus in Elf, and Shrek in Shrek Jr. The Musical with MT@ISB. Other favorite roles include Snoopy in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice with Front Row Center. A passionate cinephile and soccer player at Coronado High School, Pepe is also well known for his spot-on imitations!

Chalk Circle Collective is a nonprofit theatre production company that starts with the artist. Instead of using the traditional season model of theatre, we choose our projects based on the goals and ambitions of the collaborators and help the artist grow to the next stage of their career.
